The NNHS Jazz Programs have received local, state, and national recognition, including class champion awards at local competitions, and performances at the Illinois Music Educators Conference, Essentially Ellington Festival and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. Students wishing to participate in instrumental jazz at Naperville North have the option of Jazz Lab (open to all; no audition), and auditioning into Jazz Band and Jazz Ensemble.

Jazz Ensemble is the highest level jazz ensemble at NNHS. Participation is by audition and usually includes only sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Performances also include events in the community and at various festivals.
Rehearses Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm-7: 00pm as well as Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays before school.

Jazz Band is the second of two auditioned jazz groups at NNHS. Jazz Band is a fantastic opportunity for students to listen, speak, and learn to play the jazz language at a high level. Almost all Jazz Ensemble participants were once Jazz Band members. Participation is by audition, open to all grades, and includes only those students who can commit to the rehearsal schedule. This group performs at many of the same venues and festivals as Jazz Ensemble.
Rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:15pm-8: 45pm as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays before school.

Jazz Lab is an introductory jazz ensemble where all are welcome including non-traditional jazz instrumentation. This group does not require an audition but does require a commitment to be at rehearsals on a regular basis.
Rehearses Monday evenings from 5:30pm-8:00pm, starting October 28.

Jazz Combos are created from smaller groups of musicians of approximately the same ability level. Rehearsals are scheduled before school, after school, or during lunch by the group members themselves. The combos are coached according to each group’s needs.
